Art offers us the opportunity to develop a fuller understanding of the everyday experiences of being human. By contemplating the night sky, a rain storm, or feelings of loss, hope, despair and joy from perspectives other than our own, we are allowed a glimpse at the world through other eyes and challenged to consider the similarities that unite us as well as the value and beauty of our own unique perspective. We are challenged to consider not only how our perspective might enrich others but also to find the courage to express it. Tonight you are invited to serenade the moon, dance with abandon, experience an Amazonian rainstorm, celebrate the pain and joy of friendship, and come just a bit closer to accepting that, in the matters that truly define our humanity, while our vantage points may vary, we just may be more alike than different.
